For many years, at the recommendation of Curtis Rand, our consulting forester, MRI has been a research site for the American Chestnut Foundation (ACF). This fall, thanks to Curtis, and our “citizen scientists” eagle-eyed Mike Rogers and Michael Kluchman, ACF was able to collect about 50 “burrs” (seed pods) from blooming chestnut trees on MRI land. While we do not know if the burrs will be viable, their presence is a very exciting development. It’s an honor and privilege to continue our contribution to ACF’s research efforts. Thanks Curtis, Mike and Michael!
