The Maintenance and Security Committee will be sponsoring a community volunteer work day on Saturday, July 1st between 9-12. Please plan on gathering at the Forge with your implements of destruction (rakes, clippers, hacksaws, scythes or whatever bramble and weed tackling tools you have.) A hotdog feast will follow for all volunteers! Please contact Andrea Combes at [email protected] or Ethan Gee at [email protected] with any questions.

    Hello Mountain Community!
Community Volunteer Work Day, a tradition started by Alice, is taking shape. We expect to have a reasonable number of projects which should include Cemetery clean-up, Tennis Courts clean-up plus shed clean-up, West Rock trail maintenance and perhaps some localized invasive clean-up. Should anyone have a project suggestion, please contact Andrea or me directly (emails in above post). We will have a hotdog cookout starting at ~noon to include refreshments (soda, water, beer).
    See you there!

    Project Updates!
We have 3 projects in mind for the morning. Each will entail brush clearing, some light chainsaw work possible. Weed trimming, as well. There are a few small-scale demo and carpentry projects, as well as clean-up and organizing. Specifics:

    West Rock/Western Lookout Trail clean-up
    – Clippers, shears/loppers should suffice.

    Tennis Courts
    – Demo old picnic table, ready it for burning (sledge or splitting maul)
    – Org. shed to accommodate existing equipment, make room for future community equipment to be stored there
    – Replacement of 2 – 3 boards on spectator seating (will bring boards along with drill and screws)
    – Screw down any boards requiring such
    – clean-up around courts, trim back brush from seating, under seating (weed trimmer, loppers, high branch trimmer/saw)
    – perhaps spread some grass seed (we will provide)
    – Clear path to outhouse and sweep out outhouse (brooms, dust pan)
    – Dig out by shed door so it will close properly (shovel or 2 needed)

    Cemetery
    – General Clean-up (the woods are encroaching and even covering up a few headstones on the back edges)
    – Loppers and high cutters needed

Mountain Message Board (next to Van Griggs water kettle)
    – replace backing with new cork board (will be supplied, screwdriver needed)

A huge THANK YOU to all who were able to come out and get their hands dirty for our community day projects last Saturday! In record time we expertly executed on 3 clean-up projects and the results are fantastic.

I look forward to tackling a few more projects with you all next summer!
